Lower Merion School District
Long considered one of the most elite school districts in the region, Lower Merion is an affluent community nestled in the southwest corner of Montgomery County. The district serves approximately 8200 students among ten schools in Lower Merion Township and Narberth borough. These towns encompass a large portion of the “Main Line,” a cluster of prestigious Philadelphia suburbs.

Lower Merion has a rich tradition of academic success and achievement. Approximately 94% of graduating seniors attend institutions of higher learning – one of the highest rates in the region! The district emphasizes college readiness, and Harriton High School recently recorded the top SAT scores in the state.

With over 100 clubs and sports teams at Lower Merion and Harriton High Schools, there is something for everyone! These clubs include multiple different cultural clubs (Spanish, Israel, French), an Amnesty International Club, Dance Team, Science Olympiads, and Student Council. Plus, the Lower Merion boys tennis team recently won the state championship.

The district boasts small class sizes with a faculty-to-student ratio of 11:1, and over 80% of the teachers hold master’s degrees or higher.

The school district was the first in the state to receive the Green Ribbon School District Sustainability Award for a strong environmental education program, reducing its environmental footprint, and promoting better health!

The school district comprises Penn Valley Elementary School, Penn Wynne Elementary School, Merion Elementary School, Gladwyne Elementary School, Cynwyd Elementary School, Belmont Hills Elementary School, Bala Cynwyd Middle School, Welsh Valley Middle School, Harriton High School, and Lower Merion High School. Students are assigned to each school based on geographic location within the district.
