Lower Makefield Township

Did you know that Lower Makefield Township was named among “The Best Places to Live” by Money Magazine? It’s true! The popular township is located along the Delaware River in eastern Bucks County, and spans approximately 18 square miles.

The Township of Makefield traces its roots to 1692, when it was officially founded and named after Macclesfield, a community in Cheshire, England. In 1737, the county realigned the boundaries of Makefield Township and divided it into Lower Makefield and Upper Makefield.

Lower Makefield Township is served by the Pennsbury School District. Additionally, an abundance of private school options are located nearby including The George School, New Hope Academy, and Newtown Friends.

There is no shortage of things to do in Lower Makefield Township! One of our favorite spots to take the family is Shady Brook Farms. One of the oldest working farms in Pennsylvania, Shady Brook offers fun activities including “pick-your-own” crops, specialty foods, a garden store and ice cream.

Lower Makefield Township is home to a public swimming pool complex, which consists of four heated swimming pools, a snack bar, pavilions and more.

The township also operates Makefield Highlands, an award-winning public golf course that has been named among the Top 50 Public Golf Courses in the nation by the Golf Range Association of America.

Popular nearby restaurants include The Yardley Inn and Trattoria Rosa Bianca.

Homes in Lower Makefield Township are priced a bit above average for Bucks County. The majority of homes within the township are single-family homes between $400,000 and $700,000 and located in quiet, private neighborhoods. There tends to be a blend of newer, luxury estates and charming, historic manor homes. A handful of custom new construction homes are typically available for sale in the township, too!

If you’re looking for something a little bit smaller and more affordable within the township, you’ll love the beautiful townhome communities. Tucked back in pretty, tree-lined neighborhoods, many of the townhomes in the township are priced and offer a lower-maintenance lifestyle. There are also typically a handful of smaller, single-family homes that may need a little TLC for sale within the township under $300,000.
